  • Green Grads. The University of Washington has announced plans to create the largest environmental college in the world.
  • We need better public transportation! The U.S. Public Interest Research Group (PIRG) has launched a video contest aimed at encouraging lawmakers to better our public transportation systems. Find out more about the contest by clickinghere.
  • Harness the power of the sun! A Japanese lingerie manufacturer has created a solar powered bra.
  • Do your homework before you donate. The recent natural disasters in Myanmar and China have us all thinking how we can help. Before you send off a check, read the Donor's Guide to Global Emergencies.
  • Holy Grass-fed Cow! Enter to win a Grass-fed cow and other tasty prizes from La Cense Beef at WinAGrassFedCow.com.
  • Fashion statement. Designer Stephanie Sandstrom's EPA Dress has sensors in it that to detect the air quality of the surrounding atmosphere. Poor air quality causes the fabric to wrinkle and kink. On a clear day, the fabric lays smooth.
Hip News:
  • Bugging out. Actress Isabella Rossellini is working with the Sundance Channel to produce a series of short films called Green Porno. Trust us, it's not what you think. In the short films, Rossellini dresses up in costumes and impersonates various small creatures doing the deed.
  • An organic frosty brew. The market for organic beer is growing according to the Organic Trade Association in Greenfield, MA.
  • Up in smoke. The Bush Administration is planning on implementing new air quality rules that would make it easier to build coal-fired power plants near national parks and wilderness areas.
  • Change of position on emissions. Despite initially supporting California's request for full or partial permission to limit tail pipe emissions, the head of the EPA has reversed himself and denied the request.

Teenie Weenie Greenieā„¢

Ditch the doggie bag. This week's Teenie Weenie Greenieā„¢ was sent in by listener Dave. To cut down on plastic bags when you're eating fast food, tell the people at the register that you're eating in, not taking the food out. When you tell them you're eating in, there won't be a bag and you can just grab your food and go.

Listener Emails

Once again, we have a bunch of great listener emails. Keep 'em rolling in at hip@greenfeet.com. And don't forget to post articles, links, and speak your mind at our MHTH forum!

  • This lady puts Dori and Val to shame! Dee sent a link to a YouTube video of a woman who speaks in 21 different accents in just about 3 minutes.
  • Quench your thirst. Sandy sent along a recipe for some yummy Lavender Lemonade from his local health food store Mrs. Greens.
  • Teens making a difference. Melissa is an advisor with a Junior Achievement company program and wanted to share the great work of her kids. The high school students wanted to create a product that encourage people to live more eco-friendly. They came up with the company name Green Ambition and sold kits that include a reusable water bottle, a sample of fair trade organic coffee, a spray bottle with a recipe for a natural cleanser, soy candles, a window insulation kit, coupons for local green businesses. They've sold over 200 kits since December and even won Company of the Year at their annual Junior Achievement awards. Way to go, Hipster Heroes!
