Listener Emails

Once again, we have a bunch of great listener emails. Keep 'em rolling in at hip@greenfeet.com. And don't forget to post articles, links, and speak your mind at our MHTH forum!

  • New life for old soles. Tina was wondering where you can recycle old shoes. Try Nike's Reuse-A-Shoe program, which turns the old shoes into basketball courts, tennis courts, and athletic fields.
  • LEED professional accreditation. Congratulations to Eileen, who just passed her exam to become a LEED accredited professional! Learn more about what it means here.
  • Almost organic comfort. Wendy wanted to recommend Northern Naturals, a company that makes comfy futons that are as close to organic as you can get.
  • Smart people eat chocolate, but we already knew that! Brock thought we'd like this article, and he was right! A study from Nottingham University concluded that dark chocolate can help improve alertness and increase performance over several hours.
  • McDonald's to roll out premium patties. Mr. Designer found out that McDonald's, following in the footsteps of Carl's Jr. and Burger King, will start selling premium Angus beef burgers at over 600 of their California franchises.
  • Musicians making a difference.
    • Kristi's a fan of Guster and their Campus Consciousness Tour which visits college campuses promoting environmental awareness.
    • Emily recommend's recording artist Vienna Teng, who's Green Caravan Tour includes green merchandise and working with Habitat for Humanity.
  • Super socks. Ever wondered how socks made from bamboo hold up compared to regular cotton ones? Well Bob found a great pair that go the distance, Bamboo Runners from Geomio. They're designed specifically for running, hiking, and other outdoor activities.
  • Nice try Coca-Cola, but not quite. Diana sent us an article about Coca-Cola's new 'healthy' drink, Diet Coke Plus. It's Diet Coke with a few vitamins tossed in there, but if you ask us, it's not enough to qualify Diet Coke as healthy. . .
  • San Fran could ban plastic bags. Patrick sent us an article about how San Francisco's city board of directors is considering a ban on plastic bags.
  • Grow your own home. Jay thought that the 'Fab Tree Hab' was an idea worth passing along. It's an all-green concept home that will grow from a few seedlings into a 2 story eco-efficient home.
  • Hyundai takes new approach to fuel efficiency. According to Jeromy, it seems Hyundai has finally made a car worth buying! The QarmaQ's skin is mostly made from recycled plastic bottles, making the car much lighter, resulting in about 20 gallons a year savings in gas.
