Hip News and Finds

Finds:

Hip News:
  • 2007 in review. According to NBC (and we can't disagree), 2007 will be remembered as the year green went mainstream. Check out the article and find out what we can look forward to in our eco-friendly future.

Teenie Weenie Greenie™

The rough weather this past week in California inspired This week's Teenie Weenie Greenie™. Make sure you have an emergency preparedness kit in the case of unexpected weather and power outages. Check with your local Red Cross for a complete list of items for the kit. Some items we recommend are:

  • 1 gallon of water per person per day for 3 days
  • Flashlight, like the Shakelight
  • Plenty of blankets
  • Candles and matches and/or a lighter
  • A hand crank radio to keep updated

Frankenfoods

There's been plenty of controversy surrounding genetically modified foods, aka GMO's. Listen in as Dori and Val go over GMO 101. Check out the links below for more information about GMO's.

Listener Emails

Once again, we have a bunch of great listener emails. Keep 'em rolling in at hip@greenfeet.com. And don't forget to post articles, links, and speak your mind at our MHTH forum!

  • Listen up! Green Neck Laura wrote in about LibriVox.org, a website that takes books in the public domain and has volunteers record them. Then you can download the audio version onto your MP3 player for free! She also started up a blog this year. Check it out at grannyshippiethreads.blogspot.com.
  • Canada, Eh? Martin in Canada sent along a link to a thesis paper about the suitability of using popcorn as a packaging material.
  • The power of chocolate. Michele sent a link to an article about a truck fueled by chocolate traveling across the Sahara Desert.
