• Cleared for take off. Virgin Atlantic has completed the first biofuel flight from London to Amsterdam.

• Not your average Co-Op. Katie sent a link to the Black Star Co-Op, a co-op brewpub in Austin, Texas.
• Eat your veggies. Brian in Tennessee was listening to the BBC World Technology podcast when he heard about the Veg Exchange. The site allows people who find themselves with homegrown produce they can't use, to post a message to sell or swap produce with others. Brian also sent a link about Sandia National Labs and Stirling Energy Systems, which set a new world record in solar power generation that put efficiency on par with that of conventional coal fired plants.
• Not so clean coal. Kevin sent along a link to a video about the fight over coal in Nevada and the ad campaign by the coal mining, utilities, and train industries.
• Lance Armstrong promotes bike commuting. Renee was excited to hear about Lance Armstrong's new 18,000 sq. ft. bike shop Mellow Johnny's in Austin, Texas. The new shop is part of Armstrong's effort to encourage more people to commute by bike.
• School carnival ideas. Jen in Canada was wondering about eco-friendly ideas for stations at a school carnival. Val recommends having kids decorate empty Altoid tins to make their own little container. A little instant photo booth with costumes is always a big hit at Dori's daughter's school.

• Hybrid car sharing comes to St. Louis. Jillicious sent along an article about WeCar, a hybrid car sharing program now available in downtown St. Louis, Missouri. The program was started by Enterprise Rent-A-Car and provides members with a hybrid rental car for a low hourly rate.
• Cross off your list. List Universe has compiled a list of the top 20 beers that should be tried at least once.

• Lutz the Putz.**Warning: PG13 content.** D Magazine recently quoted General Motors CEO Bob Lutz saying, "Global warming is a total crock of sh*t". Don't hold back, Bob.
• Where's the beef? Recalled. The USDA has recalled 143 million pounds of frozen beef from a slaughterhouse that is being investigated for mistreating the cattle.
• Buzz kill. Haagen-Dazs is warning consumers that disappearing bee colonies in the U.S. could result in fewer flavors of ice cream and higher prices.

Sew easy! This week's Teenie Weenie Greenie™ was sent in by Brianna. Make your own reusable bag by recycling your old t-shirts. Grab an old t-shirt, cut out the neck, cut off the sleeves, and use a sewing machine to sew a straight seam across the bottom. Now you have a reusable bag shaped like traditional bags but is much sturdier.

A group of farmer's backed by Monsanto are pushing for labeling changes saying that hormone-free labels imply that the milk is safer than others, when they say its not.

• Uranium as a source of energy. Rick responded to last week's episode on nuclear energy with a little more information. He sent along an article about the world's largest uranium mine being shut down due to pollution.

• Recycling run around. Hannah passed along a link to the Fall 2007 issue of Co-op America. It features an article that claims while many cities are expanding their recycling facilities to accept all plastics, some may not be recycling most of it.
• One smart cookie. Listener Brian in Tennessee was intrigued by a recent Teenie Weenie Greenie that urged listeners to start talking with their local car dealers about getting more eco-friendly cars on the market. Brian, being the smart guy that he is, is taking a different approach to bring efficient cars to market. He has developed an engine design that will get the same fuel economy as current hybrids, with fewer parts and the ability to run on a wide variety of fuels. Learn more about his design here.

• Jack Johnson. We already loved singer/songwriter Jack Johnson, and now we love him even more! Check out this short video about the making of his latest album Sleep Through The Static, which includes a tour of his eco-friendly studio that is made from reclaimed wood and is solarpowered.
• Supermarket Decoder Ring. Ok, so it's not really a ring, but a recent Ideal Bite gave tips for spotting organic fruits and veggies at the market. It's all in the little number stickers on the produce. A four-digit number means it was conventionally grown. A five-digit number starting with 9 means it's organic. A five-digit number starting with 8 means it's genetically modified.
• Speaking of those stickers on fruit. . . Artist Barry Snyder uses the produce stickers found at your grocery store to create detailed artworks.

• A trashy lawsuit. Eddie House, a resident of San Carlos, California, reduced his waste to nearly zero out of concern for the environment. How was he rewarded? With a lawsuit for canceling his trash service. The city of San Carlos says that House broke the city's municipal code requiring all residential properties to contract with Allied Waste for pickup at least once a week. Ridiculous if you ask us.
• Yes, please. As if his ruggedly handsome good looks weren't enough to win your heart, Brad Pitt started the Make It Right organization building affordable, sustainable homes in the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans. Now, there's buzz that Mr. Pitt might be interested in running for Mayor of New Orleans.

Are you printer-friendly? This week's Teenie Weenie Greenie™ was sent in by Russell and deals with reducing the amount of printer ink and paper you use. He discovered GreenPrint, a free-to-download application that helps you save paper and printer ink by removing unwanted logos, banners, and orphaned pages that waste your ink cartridge. The best part? It tracks the pages you've saved so you can see the amount of waste you've cut out.
