Hip News and Finds

Hip News:
  • A green AFTER-life. A green burial means you'll minimize your footprint on this planet even after you've passed on.
  • Makes us wonder. . Kellie sent along an article that questions if big high-tech companies are green hypocrites.

Teenie Weenie Greenieā„¢

This week's Teenie Weenie Greenieā„¢ comes from Gorgeously Green by Sophie Uliano. It's a recipe for a homemade natural insecticide for your garden. Fill a reusable spray bottle with tap water and 1/2 cup of liquid castille soap (like Dr. Bronners). Shake it up and spray in your garden to repel aphids and other nasty bugs. For a stronger solution, add 3 cloves of minced garlic and let it sit for 1 hour before spraying.

Listener Emails

Once again, we have a bunch of great listener emails. Keep 'em rolling in at hip@greenfeet.com. And don't forget to post articles, links, and speak your mind at our MHTH forum!

  • Rubber duckie, you're the one! Catherine sent a link to fabulously phthalate-free rubber duckie.
  • Beer Festival! Patrick wanted everyone to know about the World Beer Festival being held in North Carolina.
  • Get your green, daily. Big thanks to Shawn, a writer for GreenDaily.com, for an awesome review of More Hip Than Hippie.
  • Bike to work week. If you're looking for a Bike to Work Week event near you, James recommends checking out BiketoWorkWeek.org.
  • Food is expensive, Eh? Jay sent a link to an article about how the rising price of grain is causing food prices in Canada to climb higher and higher.
  • Green Books for Green Living. Listener Angela wanted to let everyone know about a great company that she works for, EcoBrain.com. It's an online retailer of eBooks about the environment and eco-friendly living.
  • Good news, bad news. Brian sent along several links, so let's start with the good news first. A recent study shows that eating chocolate can lower your cholesterol. Now for the bad news: Shell Oil is projecting that the demand for oil is going to outstrip production by 2015. For more information, check out this interview and lecture with the head of Shell Oil.
